Oh. My. God. If you like Militaryward, this fic is for you.
A bit of a warning... I'm not usually a crier, but I definitely shed a few tears while reading this.
The first chapter begins with Edward, an officer in the Marines, delivering the news to Bella that her husband, Mike, has been killed. The first chapter is all about the horribleness of her loss. To compound it even more, Bella is pregnant but miscarries.
Flash forward three years and Bella is on her way to take a Hawaiian vacation on her own. She wants to get away from her friends and family who are still coddling her though she feels she has finished grieving and wants to move on with her life. As she is boarding her plane, she literally runs into Edward who is himself heading to Hawaii. The two end up deciding to share their vacation, and island hop together.
Over the course of their vacation a romance begins to brew. A good chunk of the fic is happy-go-lucky as we follow E & B on their treks through Hawaii. As their relationship becomes a bit more serious, drama ensues.
Edward once again has to deliver the news of a death to a Marine spouse, and on top of that there is another minor character death (and while the character is minor, the effect of their death is pretty significant). All of this coupled with Bella being assigned a teaching position in a different country than Edward, and the uncertainty of where their new relationship is headed, leads to a bit of a New Moon-esque period.
This fic is still a WIP, and I just finished the most recent chapter, 29, where things were finally coming together for E & B.
