Awaken by Edward's Eternal

Edward is a famous classical musician with a horrible past.  A car accident which has left him nearly blind and suffering from headaches also killed his parents.  He also has a pretty horrific experience in a past relationship (at some point in the fic there is a chapter that documents the abuse - it's not pretty).  All of this adds up to an Edward who is pretty damaged and comes off as an asshole at times.

Bella is a fan who meets Edward at an autograph signing.  They seem to click right away and Edward asks her to spend time with him.  The relationship has a pretty rocky start because of Edward's anger issues and him dealing with trust issues over his past failed relationship.  But once these two get going, they stay together for the entire ride.

 The real drama in this fic comes from James, the manager of another musician Edward is working with.  James directs his harassment and threats at a bewildered Edward who can't seem to figure out why James hates him so much.  Part of the fun of this fic is figuring out the mystery of James and why he harbors such animosity towards Edward.

 Awaken has a fantastic Carlisle who spouts off the word 'fuck' pretty frequently.  This was something I really enjoyed!

Tip of the Spear by Robsmyyummy Cabanaboy

Oh. My. God.  If you like Militaryward, this fic is for you.

A bit of a warning... I'm not usually a crier, but I definitely shed a few tears while reading this.

The first chapter begins with Edward, an officer in the Marines, delivering the news to Bella that her husband, Mike, has been killed.  The first chapter is all about the horribleness of her loss.  To compound it even more, Bella is pregnant but miscarries.

Flash forward three years and Bella is on her way to take a Hawaiian vacation on her own.  She wants to get away from her friends and family who are still coddling her though she feels she has finished grieving and wants to move on with her life.  As she is boarding her plane, she literally runs into Edward who is himself heading to Hawaii.  The two end up deciding to share their vacation, and island hop together.  

Over the course of their vacation a romance begins to brew.  A good chunk of the fic is happy-go-lucky as we follow E & B on their treks through Hawaii.  As their relationship becomes a bit more serious, drama ensues.  

Edward once again has to deliver the news of a death to a Marine spouse, and on top of that there is another minor character death (and while the character is minor, the effect of their death is pretty significant).  All of this coupled with Bella being assigned a teaching position in a different country than Edward, and the uncertainty of where their new relationship is headed, leads to a bit of a New Moon-esque period.

This fic is still a WIP, and I just finished the most recent chapter, 29, where things were finally coming together for E & B.

Altered Measure by Kitchmill

Altered Measure begins with Edward, the lead singer of rock band Breaking Dawn, taking Bella's virginity backstage after a concert.  She makes her escape from this one-night stand and heads home.  Neither think they'll see the other again.

Bella finds out she is pregnant and attempts to contact Edward, but every letter she sends is responded to with a form letter and autograph picture.  Bella loses hope of contacting Edward to let him know he'll be a father.  At some point, an intern comes across Bella's last letter and it makes its way to Edward.

The story focuses on Edward and Bella navigating their new relationship as co-parents, and eventually as romantic partners.

This is one of my favorite types of fanfiction.  I'm a sucker for romance and family with just enough drama thrown in to make it interesting.  This fic is in my favorites list and I'll likely read it again.  My only complaint is that the story seemed a bit rushed and ended too soon after E & B finally got together.  I would have like to see more of their romantic relationship.  I'm hoping for some out takes in the future!

Fatherhood, Formula, and Other F Words by Anhanninen

 

Edward is a young doctor who spends his free time sleeping around.  After moving back to Washington to work, he gets a visit from a past one-night stand who brings him a surprise: a baby.  The woman decides she's not ready to be a mother and leaves the baby girl with Edward.  Edward is forced to leave behind his playboy lifestyle and grow up to become a father.

Bella lives in the apartment next door to Edward.   When she sees Edward struggling to learn how to care for an infant, she steps in to help.  She becomes a regular babysitter for him, and through this relationship a romance begins to form

The story focuses on Edward as he traverses his way through fatherhood and his first serious romantic relationship.  The reader will watch them begin to blend their lives together and form their own small family.

I've read this fic more than once, and recommend it for people who like fluff and romance with a plot.

Dirty South Drug Wars by Hoodfabulous

Dirty South Drugs Wars (DSDW) is a Romeo and Juliet style romance between teens, Edward and Bella, who belong to rival drug families in Mississippi.  Throughout the story, you'll see Bella slowly begin to mistrust her own family, discover old family secrets and scandals, and deal with the violence of the drug business her family is involved in.

There is suspense and a bit of mystery in this, violence and death, family drama, and the tiniest hint of super natural weirdness (Is Alice really having visions?  Is that person Bella is speaking to real or a ghost, or is Bella just crazy?).
